Mississippi Needs Your Help!

On Tuesday, Mississippi voters will cast their ballots for or against Initiative 26. If passed, Initiative 26 will change the legal definition of the word “person” in the Mississippi constitution to include “every human being from the moment of fertilization, cloning, of the function equivalent thereof”. Not only will this amendment make abortion illegal in all cases, including in cases of rape, incest, or when the life of the mother is at risk, but the unintended consequences of this initiative are far reaching such as outlawing forms of hormonal birth control and would make clinically assisted fertility techniques like in vitro fertilization illegal.
Our sister affiliate, Planned Parenthood Southeast, Inc., which serves Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi is working hard to educate Mississippians about just how dangerous Initiative 26 would be. As Kay Scott, CEO of PP Southeast stated, “Amendment 26 may sound sensible to some, but it will have extreme consequences for women and children. It may outlaw abortions, even if the woman's life is threatened or she's been raped. It’s so extreme it could even ban common methods of birth control like the pill and IUDs. This would mean more unintended pregnancies, putting families at risk, and women facing unhealthy and dangerous options. This would put government bureaucrats in charge of important life decisions when they should really be focusing on getting the economy back on track and getting their own house in order.”
Please join us for a special emergency phone bank to help Mississippi voters learn the truth about this initiative. Work from our New Haven headquarters or out of your home between 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. R.S.V.P. to organizing@ppsne.org.
We also encourage you to support the No On 26 campaign financially by donating online.
